What Are You Thankful For?
November 21, 2007
As we get ready to stuff our faces with turkey and dressing, it’s important for us to remember why we celebrate Thanksgiving. While we shouldn’t have to set aside a day to be “thankful,” it does help to have a day to remind us of the importance of gratitude.
1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV) says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
When we take time to give thanks to God, it certainly alters our perspective. And I believe if we did that more often, we wouldn’t have as much difficulty simplifying our lives. A changed perspective means a changed life, and that’s what I am praying for this Thanksgiving.
Talkback Questions:
What are you thankful for this year?
How do you think gratitude changes our perspective?
Well, I have to say that I am (among many other things) thankful for my church. We have an awsome youth group and awsome leaders. Our pastors are good and the atmosphere of our church is great. I couldn’t picture myself without my church. I think that stopping to thank God for all that he’s given us and all that he’s done for us makes us humble because we see ourselves for who we are and see how great he is and Who he is and all he’s done for us. We have a great God, and sometimes I tend to forget that and just hurry through my prayers without taking time to thank Him for all he’s done. I catch myself doing it and I correct myself because he deserves full glory for everything!
